FRIENDLY WEB HOSTING Most would agree that there is a real need to reduce the
worlds carbon emissions and live a more sustainable life. Companies of all sizes are
taking steps to reduce or eliminate their carbon footprint, Layerdyne is one of them.
Not many people realize the impact that the IT industry has on the environment. The
average server may produce the same carbon emissions as a 15 MPG Sports Utility Vehicle
(SUV).
WHAT WE HAVE DONE AT LAYERDYNE
| At Layerdyne, we've taken every step possible to reduce the
environmental impact of our company. From utilizing more efficient servers (36% more
efficient) and equipment to purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (REC's) and taking other
measures to offset our carbon footprint even more. But that's not all... |
 |
In addition to running efficient servers and only operating essential equipment as
needed and being eco-responsible in the office, we have remote employees that work from
their own homes or locations, reducing the need to travel, creating more carbon emissions
on gas consumption.
Like many modern IT and tech savvy companies, Layerdyne is mostly a virtual company,
operating in the cloud... but that doesn't mean we operate ONLY in the cloud.
We do have an office and we are hyper conscious about our carbon footprint here, and
that means we recycle everything possible.
CARBON OFFSETS
Our servers are located in The Planet datacenters in
Texas, but we can't just send them a windmill and some solar panels and ask them to only
power our equipment with these, so the most common practice is to offset any power usage
from the grid with a variety of carbon offset methods.
Since our datacenters are located in Texas, we've invested in Texas Wind Renewable
Energy Credits (REC's) to offset our entire company's power consumption.
But that's not all...
We've said we where hyper conscious about the environment and we are. We feel investing
in wind power is great, but that isn't the only solution to our environmental dilemma, and
that doesn't offset our companies ENTIRE carbon footprint.
To make up the difference, we have gotten involved in a few programs to plant trees
here in North America. Although many trees are cut down every day and the rainforests are
quickly disappearing, trees are important to us because they eliminate existing co2 gasses
and return only clean, breathable air into the environment. |
